Career path to success – Ep.2: Exclusive interview with Thomas Baffray

[Mona Roiff] You started as a Project Manager and are now a VP. Can you walk us through your journey?

[Thomas Baffray] Hello Mona! Sure, I started in 2021 as a Project Manager for content teams. Then, I built a Run team and became Head of Run.

After several months, I had the opportunity to move to a director role by integrating datacenters into my scope, and I finally had the opportunity to take on the role of VP of Platform Engineering.

[Mona Roiff] What motivated you to grow so quickly in your career?

[Thomas Baffray] I think the main reason is I really wanted to make an impact on a company that I believe in.

[Mona Roiff] Did you have a clear career plan from the beginning?

[Thomas Baffray] Not especially. I like to suggest and implement ideas and embrace the opportunities that come my way!

[Mona Roiff] What skills or personal qualities have helped you the most?

[Thomas Baffray] Maybe being a “little” stubborn has helped me. But seriously, being curious, holding on to your convictions helpsa lot. If you combine it with the fact that I’m not afraid to take risks and make impactful decisions, I. think all of this has helped my on my path.

[Mona Roiff] Were there any moments of doubt or setbacks? How did you overcome them?

[Thomas Baffray] Yes, a lot. Each step was challenging. However, I could count on my peers and Managers’ support, and this gaveme the courage and motivation to go beyond my assignment and to overcome my fears.

[Mona Roiff] What role did managers or mentors play in your progression?

[Thomas Baffray] A key role. By giving trust, encouraging and challenging me on one hand, and on the other, not hesitating to share things that didn’t go well. This gave me the opportunity to evolve really fast at each stage of my career path.

[Mona Roiff] In your opinion, what is it about our company culture that made this growth possible?

[Thomas Baffray] Several things. Being allowed to make mistakes, the fact that Believe allows initiatives to come from anywhere, and recognition of commitments that have been made. That would be a good summary.

[Mona Roiff] What advice would you give to someone just starting out who hopes to follow a similar path?

[Thomas Baffray] Try to do things instead of hoping for things. Think, suggest, implement, test, fail and then improve and I’mpretty sure that you will find the path that you’re working towards.
