The Job
We are looking for a Copyright Specialist to support copyright verification, rights assessment, and dispute resolution for digital content. The role will involve reviewing rights documentation, evaluating competing copyright claims, identifying potential risks, and working with DSPs, clients, counterparties, and third-party rights holders to resolve disputes and protect legitimate rights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Proof Verification & Documentation Review
- Review and assess copyright and ownership documentation, including contracts, licensing agreements, split sheets, indemnification letters, clearance forms, assignments, and other supporting evidence.
- Verify whether documentation sufficiently establishes ownership, licensing authority, usage rights, territories, and applicable terms.
- Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or gaps in documentation and request additional evidence where required.
- Maintain accurate records of rights documentation and case history.
2. Rights & Risk Assessment
- Evaluate the validity, relevance, and sufficiency of evidence supporting copyright or licensing claims.
- Assess competing rights claims and determine whether the available evidence supports keeping content online or taking further action.
- Identify potential legal, contractual, and operational risks associated with disputed content.
- Escalate complex or legally sensitive matters to the appropriate internal Legal or Rights Management teams.
3. Dispute Resolution & Third-Party Escalation
- Manage copyright disputes involving DSPs, clients, distributors, labels, publishers, artists, and third-party rights holders.
- Communicate with relevant parties to clarify claims, obtain supporting evidence, and resolve conflicting ownership.
- Prepare and submit documentation for appropriate actions, including takedowns, counter-notices, whitelisting, reinstatements, and claim withdrawals.
- Track escalated cases through resolution and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up.
- Support constructive resolution of disputes while ensuring decisions are based on available rights evidence and applicable policies.
4. Internal Collaboration
- Communicate clear findings, risks, and recommended actions to relevant stakeholders.
- Support improvements to copyright verification processes, dispute workflows, SOPs, and documentation standards.
